These surgical procedures return your body to it’s natural shape after massive weight loss. The plastic surgeon will use various procedures to improve your contour. This can include a breast lift and augmentation, arm lift, thigh lift, tummy tuck, or lower body lift.
Massive weight loss is becoming more common due to advances in bariatric surgery. Most patients will lose over 75-100 pounds using new surgical methods. The resultant loose skin usually will not contract to it previous tone. In many cases, removing this skin will require multiple staged procedures.
Contour improvement in these patients requires planning and excellent post operative care. Dr. Izquierdo will address your concerns depending on their severity and incidence of ongoing problems such as chronic chaffing and dermatitis. A sequential plan will be outlined for your particular problems.
During your consultation, Dr. Izquierdo will discuss all your options based on his examination. Our goal is to return your body to it’s natural shape after massive weight loss.
Total body lift (a circumferential tummy tuck) will improve the abdomen, back, and buttocks. A breast lift and possible breast augmentation with removal of the upper “bra roll” will address the chest and upper back. Arm lifts and thigh lifts complete the body part of weight loss surgery. These procedures are usually staged over a six to twelve month period to allow for healing.
Recovery time after massive weight loss is sometimes more prolonged than usual. It could take up to 4-6 weeks for each procedure to fully heal. Intervals between each procedure will depend on your post operative progress.
Complications are rare, but can include infection, hematoma, delayed wound healing and scarring, numbness, leg vein thrombosis or embolism.
