A thigh lift is a surgical procedure that removes the excess skin and fat from the thigh. Patients will often undergo a thigh lift when they have lost a significant amount of weight. The loss of skin elasticity is magnified after significant weight loss. Most surgical techniques focus on excision of excess skin and tightening what remains. Scars may be hidden, but may also be visible.
During your consultation, Dr. Izquierdo will discuss all your options based on his examination. Dr. Izquierdo’s goal is to elevate and remove lax excess skin and fat of the anterior and medial thigh.
A thigh lift will elevate and remove lax excess skin and fat of the anterior and medial thigh. This surgical procedure is done in an ambulatory surgical center under general anesthesia. The procedure usually requires 2-3 hours to complete. Incisions are placed in the natural crease between the thigh and pubic area. In patients with massive weight loss, a vertical incision down the inside part of the thigh may be required. Drains may be used depending on the specific procedure.
Post operative recovery usually requires 10-14 days. Those patients with children needing close attention, are encouraged to acquire additional or surrogate help for their child care during the early post operative period. Scars are rarely troublesome but patients should be aware that scarring is sometimes unpredictable.
Complications, although rare, may extend your recovery time. Infection, blood clots, and numbness may occur.
