Blepharoplasty for lower lid eye bags

Blepharoplasty for Lower Lid Eye Bags

Some patients also have very limited amount of fat in their lower eyelids and that’s all they’re complaining about in those patients depending on the quality of the skin of the lower eyelid. I will go and address that excess fat of the lower lids by making an incision in that area. We then remove the fat from the lower lid area and then we also will use a laser to tighten the overlying skin for a better contour.

Browlift Vs Blepharoplasty - Which is Best for Sagging Eyelids

Brow lifts vs Blepharoplasty Which Is Best for Sagging Eyelids

When I look at a patient and their concerns of their eyes or brows we usually look at the entire face. In some patients the brows are in good position and by that I mean the browse should be curvilinear meaning that the medial portions of the brow should be lower than the lateral portions of the brow and giving it a nice arc. If they are straight across or certainly drooping at the lateral side certainly a brow lift is indicated and in some patience it’s not only just the brows it’s also the upper lip skin so we would do a combined blepharoplasty as well as a brow lift.

Can Eyelid Surgery Be Done Without Anesthesia

Can Eyelid Surgery be done without Anesthesia

Upper eyelid surgery can be done with local anesthesia. You would be awake and we numb the upper eyelids allow that to settle in for approximately 10 to 15 minutes and we proceed with doing the procedure with no pain. You will still have the usual amount of bruising and swelling but you will have proceeded with an upper lid blepharoplasty with no need to go to sleep.

Droopy Eyelids – non surgical Alternatives to Eyelift Surgery

Droopy Eyelids Non-Surgical Alternatives

Patients who have droopy eyelids often asked me if there are other alternatives for improving their eyelids besides surgery. Unfortunately it’s a problem that can only be fixed using surgery because of the excess skin and laxity of the skin. Many times patients also have excess of fat in and around the upper part of the eye as well as the lower part. So we also address removing some of that excess fat that will give the impression of being puffy.

Eyelid Surgery Recovery

Eyelid Surgery Recovery

The eyelid surgery recovery is usually less painful than most of the procedures we perform. However you will there will be a great amount of swelling and bruising for most patients. The stitches that are used are usually removed around 5 days postoperatively. And the bruising will take sometimes up to 2 weeks to resolve. I usually tell my patients that to get back into work or to your usual schedule may take up to 2 weeks. But at the same time they we allow them to have some makeup in those areas at the end of 2 weeks’ time.

How Can I Fix One Drooping Eye

How Can I Fix One Drooping Eye

If the patient comes in with one drooping eye most of us will first check to see if the muscle that elevates the eyelid on that side has become weakened. Certainly that can be repaired through a blepharoplasty incision or at times it may require further surgery. But when I see a patient with that problem we can certainly tighten the muscle that has become lax and make it appear more symmetrical with the other side.

How Long Until Plastic Surgery Stitches Dissolve

How Long Until Plastic Surgery Stiches Dissolve

We use dissolvable stitches usually on the lower lid and on the upper lid we use stitches that require removal and the reason for that is as the upper lid actually has more motion than the lower lid. So we need to give the upper lid a longer time for the healing process to complete so that the wounds heal nicely. On the other hand the lower lids don’t have a large arc of motion so I usually will use a dissolving suture on the lower lids.

Upper Eyelid Surgery Learn What Concerns It Can Correct

Upper Eyelid Surgery What Concerns It Can Correct

Upper eyelid surgery can address problems that are impairing the vision of a patient mostly either heavy upper lids and or loss of the strength of the muscle that elevates the lid. So, at times patients will require surgery to regain their full arc of vision.

What Is a Blepharoplasty

What Is Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty requires the removal of the excess skin and usually the underlying muscle overlying the lid. We usually will also look for the fat pockets which in some cases or in most cases patients have lost some of the retention wall that occurs in the upper and lower lid. So we will open that retention wall and gently remove small amounts of fat just enough to minimize the area where the excess fat was. This is done also in the lower lids and then and this produces a smoother softer look in both the upper and lower lids.

Will my Insurance Pay for Blepharoplasty

Will My Insurance Pay For Blepharoplasty

Patients often ask me, if insurance will pay for a blepharoplasty?  The only cases in which insurance will pay for a blepharoplasty are those in which you have lost field of vision, meaning that your eyelids are so heavy that they block the vision of your eyes. We tell patients that if that’s their concern the first thing they should obtain is a visual field test and then we can evaluate the possibility of insurance covering them. We will usually write a letter to the insurance if that’s the issue. But that would be the only reason that an insurance company would pay for the upper eyelids.
